“How Sweet And Awful Is The Place”

This is a song that will forever be in my heart. We sang this song at the “Together For The Gospel” (T4G) conference this past April. Five thousand of us! Giving God glory. Please hit the link below and hear us sing this song. It is hard to make out some of the lyrics at times, so read the words that I have provided. Look real close and you can catch a photo of us sitting about five rows behind John Piper and Mark Dever  praying.

How sweet and awesome is this place
[originallyHow sweet and aweful is the place]
With Christ within the doors,
While everlasting love displays
The choicest of her stores!

Here every bowel of our God
With soft compassion rolls;
Here peace and pardon bought with blood
Is food for dying souls.

While all our hearts and all our songs
Join to admire the feast,
Each of us cry, with thankful tongues,
“Lord, why was I a guest?

“Why was I made to hear Thy voice,
And enter while there’s room,
When thousands make a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come?”

’Twas the same love that spread the feast
That sweetly drew us in;
Else we had still refused to taste,
And perished in our sin.

Pity the nations, O our God!
Constrain the earth to come;
Send Thy victorious Word abroad,
And bring the strangers home.

We long to see Thy churches full,
That all the chosen race
May with one voice, and heart and soul,
Sing Thy redeeming grace.

  1. Brother it don’t get know better than that. I think it harder listening to it just now than it did at the conference. Praise God!!!!

    P.S. We need to a shout out to Bro. Bryan for getting us those seats!:)

  2. I meant to say hit harder. I got excited typing.

  3. I too agree with Bro. Bill, you need to give me a shout out for those seats, lol! No seriously, I agree that it does hit harder now looking at those words especially, “Lord, why was I a guest?”! Wow. Would He still not be righteous if He never sent an invitation or calling or even prepared a feast? Yes He would. Thank God for opening our eyes and ears and changing our being, our entire being for His purpose!

    P.S. Thank you Brothers for always lifting Him up and showing His love to all. You guys are a blessing to me, more than you’ll ever know! Pray for us Brothers!
